Artsakh

Artsakh, also known as Nagorno-Karabakh, is a landlocked region in the South Caucasus, primarily inhabited by ethnic Armenians. Historically part of Azerbaijan, it sought independence after the Soviet Union collapsed, leading to a protracted conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The region declared independence in the early 1990s, resulting in a war that caused significant loss of life and displacement. Despite a ceasefire in 1994, tensions have persisted, with periodic outbreaks of violence. Azerbaijan regained control over parts of Artsakh in a 2020 war, complicating the situation further and affecting the lives of many residents.
