Artsakh Republic
The Artsakh Republic, also known as Nagorno-Karabakh, is a self-declared region primarily populated by ethnic Armenians. It is located within Azerbaijan's internationally recognized borders but has sought independence since the late 1980s, leading to armed conflict. Following a war in the early 1990s, it achieved de facto independence, but its status remains unrecognized by most countries, including Armenia and Azerbaijan. Tensions have persisted, culminating in a major conflict in 2020. The region's future remains uncertain, intertwined with broader geopolitical issues involving Armenia, Azerbaijan, and regional powers.
