Armenia-Azerbaijan relations

Armenia and Azerbaijan have a long-standing conflict primarily over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, a territory with a predominantly ethnic Armenian population but internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan. The tensions escalated into wars in the late 20th century and again in 2020, leading to significant military and civilian casualties. Although a ceasefire was reached, disputes over the region continue, with issues of borders, ethnic identity, and national pride at the forefront. Both countries seek to assert their sovereignty and territorial integrity, complicating peace efforts and regional stability in the South Caucasus.
