Mountbatten Plan

The Mountbatten Plan, proposed by Lord Louis Mountbatten in 1947, was a blueprint for the partition of British India into two independent states: India and Pakistan. Faced with escalating communal tensions between Hindus and Muslims, the plan aimed to address demands for self-rule and religious autonomy. It outlined a timeline for independence, setting August 15, 1947, as the date for both nations to emerge. The plan also included the division of resources and territories. While it led to independence, it subsequently triggered widespread violence and mass migrations, profoundly impacting the subcontinent's history.
