Military Assistance Command, Vietnam
The Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV) was a United States Army unit established in 1962 during the Vietnam War. Its mission was to coordinate and oversee military assistance to the South Vietnamese forces in their fight against the communist North. MACV was responsible for training, advising, and supporting the South Vietnamese military, as well as conducting operations. The command played a crucial role in implementing U.S. military strategy in Vietnam until the withdrawal of American troops in the early 1970s. Ultimately, it faced significant challenges, including changing warfare tactics and political dynamics.
