Kidney Transplantation
Kidney transplantation is a medical procedure where a healthy kidney from a donor is surgically placed into a person whose kidneys are no longer working properly. This can happen due to chronic diseases, such as diabetes or high blood pressure. The donor kidney takes over the function of filtering waste and excess fluids from the blood, which the failing kidneys cannot do. Transplantation can significantly improve the recipient's quality of life and is often preferred over long-term dialysis. After the transplant, patients need to take medications to prevent their body from rejecting the new kidney.
