Dialysis Treatment
Dialysis is a medical treatment that helps people whose kidneys are not functioning properly. Kidneys filter waste and excess fluids from the blood, but when they fail, dialysis takes over that role. There are two main types: hemodialysis, where blood is cleaned using a machine outside the body, and peritoneal dialysis, which uses the lining of the abdomen to filter blood. Treatment usually takes several hours and is performed regularly, helping to maintain the body’s balance of fluids and electrolytes, and ensuring waste products are removed, effectively sustaining the health of patients with kidney failure.
