Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD)

Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) is a type of kidney treatment that uses the lining of the abdomen (peritoneum) as a natural filter to remove waste, excess fluid, and toxins from the blood. It involves daily exchanges of a special fluid (dialysate) introduced into the abdomen via a catheter. The waste products are drawn into the fluid, which is then drained out, typically four times a day, allowing patients to perform the process manually without machines. CAPD offers flexibility and independence, making it suitable for many people with kidney failure.
