Antibody Mediated Rejection (AMR)

Antibody-Mediated Rejection (AMR) occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks transplanted organs or tissues. After a transplant, the recipient's body might produce antibodies against the donor’s specific proteins, seeing them as foreign. This immune response can damage the transplanted organ, leading to impaired function or failure. AMR can happen even weeks or years after the transplant, making it critical for patients to be monitored regularly and sometimes treated with medication to suppress the immune response and protect the transplant. Timely intervention is essential to improve outcomes for transplant recipients.
