ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor)
ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) is a large-scale scientific project aiming to demonstrate that nuclear fusion—a process similar to how the sun produces energy—can be used as a practical, clean power source. It involves heating and merging hydrogen isotopes in a giant machine called a tokamak to create extremely high temperatures and pressures, producing energy. The goal is to produce more energy than is put in, paving the way for sustainable, abundant, and environmentally friendly electricity generation in the future. ITER is a collaborative effort involving multiple countries, working together to unlock fusion’s potential.
