Ipilimumab
Ipilimumab is a medication used to treat certain types of cancer, particularly melanoma, by harnessing the body's immune system. It works by blocking a protein called CTLA-4, which normally acts as a brake on immune responses. By inhibiting this protein, ipilimumab enhances the ability of immune cells to find and destroy cancer cells. It is often used in combination with other treatments and can lead to lasting responses in some patients. However, like many cancer therapies, it may also cause side effects, as it boosts overall immune activity.
