Iliotibial Band Syndrome

Iliotibial Band Syndrome (ITBS) is a common overuse injury that affects runners and cyclists. It occurs when the iliotibial band, a thick strip of tissue running from the hip to the knee, becomes tight or inflamed. This can lead to pain on the outside of the knee, especially during activities like running or walking downhill. Factors contributing to ITBS include poor running form, inadequate stretching, and muscle imbalances. Treatment often involves rest, stretching, strengthening exercises, and sometimes physical therapy to address the underlying issues and reduce inflammation.
