Chronic Granulomatous Disease

Chronic Granulomatous Disease (CGD) is a rare genetic disorder affecting the immune system. People with CGD have difficulty fighting off certain infections because their white blood cells can't produce the reactive substances needed to destroy certain bacteria and fungi. This leads to frequent and severe infections, as well as the formation of granulomas—clusters of immune cells that form when the body tries to wall off the infections. While CGD can be managed with medications and preventive measures, it requires lifelong care and monitoring to reduce the risk of infections.
