Ch'an
Ch'an, often referred to as Zen in Japan, is a school of Mahayana Buddhism that emphasizes meditation and direct experience of reality. Originating in China, Ch'an focuses on achieving insight through mindfulness and the practice of sitting meditation (zazen), rather than relying solely on scriptures or rituals. Its teachings encourage individuals to look within themselves to discover enlightenment, often promoting the idea of spontaneity and the interconnectedness of all beings. Ch'an practices aim to cultivate a deep, profound awareness of the present moment, fostering inner peace and a clearer understanding of life's nature.
