Kinhin

Kinhin is a traditional Buddhist practice of walking meditation performed between periods of seated meditation (zazen). Practitioners walk slowly and mindfully along a designated path, usually between a series of markers called jisang. The purpose is to maintain focus, cultivate awareness, and gently transition between seated sessions without losing mindfulness. Kinhin emphasizes deliberate, attentive movement, encouraging practitioners to remain present and centered. It is often practiced in Zen traditions to deepen concentration and support mental clarity, blending physical movement with mental discipline, and reinforcing the calm, attentive mindset cultivated during meditation.
