Balloon Valvuloplasty

Balloon valvuloplasty is a medical procedure used to treat narrowed heart valves, which can restrict blood flow. During the procedure, a thin tube called a catheter is inserted into a blood vessel and guided to the affected valve. A small balloon at the end of the catheter is then inflated, which expands the valve opening. This helps improve blood flow and relieve symptoms associated with valve narrowing, such as shortness of breath or fatigue. It is often a less invasive alternative to open-heart surgery and is typically performed in a hospital setting.
