Percutaneous Balloon Valvuloplasty
Percutaneous Balloon Valvuloplasty is a minimally invasive medical procedure used to treat narrowed heart valves, typically the mitral or pulmonary valve. A thin tube called a catheter is inserted through a blood vessel, usually in the groin, and guided to the affected valve. A small balloon at the tip of the catheter is then inflated to gently widen the valve opening, improving blood flow. The procedure often provides relief from symptoms like shortness of breath and fatigue and can be an alternative to surgery for certain patients. It is performed under local anesthesia with imaging guidance to ensure precision.
