Mitral Stenosis
Mitral stenosis is a condition where the heart's mitral valve becomes narrowed, restricting blood flow from the left atrium to the left ventricle. This can result from scarring often caused by rheumatic fever. The reduced flow may lead to increased pressure in the upper left chamber and lungs, causing symptoms like shortness of breath, fatigue, and irregular heartbeat. Over time, it can strain the heart and impair its ability to pump blood effectively. Treatment options include medications to manage symptoms and, in some cases, surgical procedures to repair or replace the valve.
