Aztecs

The Aztecs were a powerful civilization that thrived in central Mexico from the 14th to the 16th centuries. Known for their impressive architecture, they built the capital city of Tenochtitlán on an island in Lake Texcoco. The Aztecs had a complex society with a rich culture, including advancements in agriculture, writing, and art. They practiced polytheism, worshiping numerous gods often through rituals, including human sacrifices. The civilization fell to Spanish conquistadors led by Hernán Cortés in 1521, which marked the end of their empire and initiated significant changes in the region’s culture and population.
