Moctezuma II

Moctezuma II was the ninth emperor of the Aztec Empire, ruling from 1502 until his death in 1520. He is known for expanding the empire to its greatest extent and for his complex relationship with Spanish conquistadors led by Hernán Cortés. Moctezuma initially welcomed Cortés, believing him to be a deity. However, this led to the downfall of the Aztec Empire as the Spanish took control. His reign is marked by both cultural advancements and the tragic consequences of European colonization, ultimately resulting in significant changes to Mesoamerican society.
