La Noche Triste

La Noche Triste, or "The Sad Night," refers to a significant event during the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire in 1520. After months of conflict and tension, Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés and his men attempted a nighttime escape from Tenochtitlán, the Aztec capital, facing fierce resistance. Many Spanish soldiers and their indigenous allies were killed, and a large portion of their treasure was lost in the escape across the canals. This battle marked a turning point in the conquest, showcasing the challenges the Spanish faced while solidifying Aztec resistance before ultimately leading to their downfall.
