Vasco da Gama
Vasco da Gama was a Portuguese explorer who lived from 1460 to 1524. He is best known for being the first person to sail directly from Europe to India by passing around Africa, which he achieved in 1498. This historic voyage opened up a sea route that allowed for direct trade between Europe and Asia, greatly influencing global commerce and the spice trade. Da Gama's expeditions helped establish Portugal as a major maritime power during the Age of Exploration and facilitated cultural exchanges between Europe and the Indian subcontinent.
