United States Colored Troops
The United States Colored Troops (USCT) were regiments composed of African American soldiers who fought for the Union during the American Civil War (1861-1865). Established in 1863 after the Emancipation Proclamation, these troops played a crucial role in the war effort, highlighting the fight for freedom and equal rights. Despite facing discrimination and often serving in more dangerous roles, they fought valiantly in numerous battles, contributing significantly to the Union victory. The USCT's service helped pave the way for the eventual abolition of slavery and greater recognition of African Americans' rights in the United States.
