Thein Sein

Thein Sein is a former military officer and politician from Myanmar (Burma) who served as the President from 2011 to 2016. He was a key figure in Myanmar's transition from a military dictatorship to a more democratic government during his presidency, initiating political and economic reforms. His administration was marked by some liberalization efforts, such as easing media restrictions and allowing semi-free elections. However, he also faced criticism for human rights abuses, particularly regarding the treatment of ethnic minorities and the Rohingya crisis. After his presidency, he remained a significant, albeit contentious, figure in Myanmar's politics.
