Theban League

The Theban League was a confederation of city-states in ancient Greece, led by Thebes, that emerged in the 4th century BCE. After defeating Sparta at the Battle of Leuctra in 371 BCE, the League challenged Spartan dominance and aimed to promote mutual defense and cooperation among its member states. It allowed Thebes to rise to power temporarily but eventually declined due to internal strife and wars with other Greek states. The League played a significant role in the shifting alliances and conflicts of the classical Greek period, highlighting the importance of regional power dynamics in ancient Greece.
