Amphictyonic League

The Amphictyonic League was an ancient religious and political association of Greek tribes formed around 600 BCE to protect and promote shared religious sites, notably the sacred mountain of Delphi. Members, called Amphictyons, coordinated efforts for religious festivals, safety, and common interests of the member states. It functioned as an early form of regional cooperation, maintaining order and fostering unity among diverse Greek communities. The league's influence extended into political and military matters, occasionally involving collective decisions or actions among member cities.
