The Theory of Planned Behavior

The Theory of Planned Behavior suggests that our actions are driven by our intentions, which are shaped by three key factors: our attitude toward the behavior (whether we see it as positive or negative), the social pressure or norms (what we think others expect us to do), and our perceived control over the behavior (how easy or difficult we believe it is to do). Essentially, if we believe a behavior has good outcomes, think others approve of it, and feel capable of doing it, we're more likely to intend and then actually perform that behavior.
