The Gaia Hypothesis, proposed by scientist James Lovelock, suggests that Earth functions as a single, self-regulating system. It posits that living organisms interact with their inorganic surroundings to maintain conditions suitable for life. For instance, plants produce oxygen and regulate climate, while oceans help moderate temperatures. Instead of viewing life and the environment as separate, the hypothesis emphasizes their interconnectedness, suggesting that changes in one can affect the whole system.
