The Battle of Actium

The Battle of Actium took place on September 2, 31 BC, and was a decisive naval conflict during the Roman civil wars. It pitted the forces of Octavian (later Emperor Augustus) against those of Mark Antony and Cleopatra. Octavian's fleet, commanded by Agrippa, defeated Antony's forces off the coast of Greece. This victory allowed Octavian to gain control over Roman territories and ultimately led to the end of the Roman Republic, establishing Octavian as the first Roman Emperor.
