Stratosphere
The stratosphere is the second layer of Earth’s atmosphere, positioned above the troposphere and below the mesosphere, extending from about 10 to 50 kilometers (6 to 31 miles) above the Earth's surface. It contains the ozone layer, which absorbs and protects us from harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. Unlike the troposphere, the stratosphere has a more stable temperature that increases with altitude, which is why airplanes often fly in this layer to avoid turbulence. Overall, the stratosphere plays a crucial role in protecting life on Earth and influencing weather patterns.
