Atmosphere (physics)

The atmosphere is the layer of gases surrounding Earth, held in place by gravity. It is essential for life, providing oxygen for breathing and protecting us from harmful radiation. The atmosphere is composed mainly of nitrogen (about 78%) and oxygen (about 21%), along with small amounts of other gases, including carbon dioxide. It plays a crucial role in weather patterns and climate by helping to regulate temperature. The atmosphere is divided into different layers, each with distinct characteristics, such as the troposphere, where weather occurs, and the stratosphere, which contains the ozone layer that shields us from the sun’s ultraviolet rays.
