Seyfert galaxies
Seyfert galaxies are a type of Active Galactic Nucleus (AGN) known for their bright centers, which often outshine their entire host galaxy. They are characterized by the presence of supermassive black holes at their cores that actively consume surrounding gas and dust. This process releases tremendous energy, producing strong emissions across the electromagnetic spectrum, particularly in optical and infrared light. Seyfert galaxies are categorized into two main types: Type 1, which show broad emission lines (indicating fast-moving gas), and Type 2, with narrower lines. They provide valuable insight into galaxy evolution and the behavior of black holes.
