Type 2 Seyfert
Type 2 Seyfert galaxies are a class of active galaxies with supermassive black holes at their centers, emitting intense radiation. In these galaxies, the central black hole is surrounded by thick, dusty material that blocks direct view of the bright core. As a result, we mainly see emission lines from gas clouds outside this obscuring matter, rather than the bright nucleus itself. This differs from Type 1 Seyferts, where the central region is visible. The classification depends on the angle of our view relative to the obscuring material, revealing different features of the galaxy’s active nucleus.
