Carl Seyfert
Carl Seyfert was an American astronomer known for studying active galaxies with extremely bright centers. He discovered a class of galaxies, called Seyfert galaxies, characterized by their intense core emissions, which are thought to be caused by supermassive black holes consuming surrounding material. These galaxies help scientists understand how black holes influence galaxy evolution. Seyfert’s work in the 1940s and 1950s significantly advanced the field of extragalactic astronomy and our understanding of the energetic processes occurring at galaxy centers.
