Self-Perception Theory

Self-Perception Theory suggests that people understand their own attitudes and feelings by observing their own behavior, especially in situations where their internal cues are unclear. Instead of having fixed internal motivations, individuals infer their beliefs and emotions from how they act. For example, if someone notices they volunteer frequently, they might conclude they are helpful or caring. This theory emphasizes that our self-views are shaped by the way we behave and our actions, rather than solely by internal feelings or thoughts. It highlights the active process of self-understanding through external cues.
