Second Constitutional Era
The Second Constitutional Era in Ottoman Turkey began in 1908 when a group called the Young Turks successfully restored a constitutional monarchy after a period of autocratic rule. This marked a shift towards modernization and democratic reforms, aiming to transform the Ottoman Empire into a more progressive state. The era sought to address various social tensions and nationalist movements within the diverse empire. However, it faced challenges, including internal strife and World War I, which ultimately led to the empire’s dissolution and the rise of the Republic of Turkey in 1923.
