Sakyamuni Buddha, also known simply as the Buddha, was a spiritual leader who lived around the 5th to 4th century BCE in what is now Nepal and India. His birth name was Siddhartha Gautama. After experiencing life's suffering, he sought enlightenment through meditation and introspection.
