Safavid Empire
The Safavid Empire (1501-1736) was a prominent Persian state that established Shia Islam as the state religion, distinguishing it from neighboring Sunni empires. Founded by Shah Ismail I, the empire combined military strength with cultural achievements, encouraging art, architecture, and literature. It was centered in modern-day Iran and is known for its beautiful mosques and Persian carpets. The Safavid period marked a significant era of Persian identity and nationalism, fostering trade and interactions across Asia. However, internal strife and external pressures ultimately led to its decline, paving the way for future Persian influences.
