Royal Cemetery of Ur
The Royal Cemetery of Ur, located in present-day Iraq, dates back to around 2600-2400 BCE. It was a burial site for the city's elite during the ancient Sumerian civilization. Excavated in the 1920s, the cemetery revealed lavish graves filled with gold artifacts, jewelry, and beautifully crafted objects, indicating the wealth and status of the deceased. One of the most famous discoveries was the tomb of Queen Puabi. The site provides valuable insights into early urban life, social structures, and religious practices, highlighting the sophistication of one of the world’s earliest known civilizations.
