Postclassic period

The Postclassic period refers to a phase in Mesoamerican history, roughly from 900 to 1500 AD, following the decline of major classical civilizations like the Maya and Teotihuacan. During this time, new cultures emerged, such as the Aztecs, who expanded regional dominance through trade, warfare, and tribute. Societies became more decentralized, with city-states and regional kingdoms. Art, architecture, and religious practices evolved, reflecting both traditional elements and new influences. This period ended with Spanish colonization in the early 16th century, dramatically altering the cultural landscape of Mesoamerica.
