Pervez Musharraf
Pervez Musharraf is a retired four-star general of the Pakistan Army who served as the 10th President of Pakistan from 2001 to 2008. He came to power in a military coup in 1999, overthrowing the democratically elected government of Nawaz Sharif. Musharraf's rule was marked by his alliance with the United States in the War on Terror following the September 11 attacks. He implemented economic reforms but faced criticism for authoritarian practices and political repression. In 2008, he resigned amid mounting pressure and later went into exile; he returned to Pakistan in 2013 but faced legal challenges.
