2007 Emergency

The 2007 Emergency in Pakistan was a period from November 3, 2007, to December 15, 2007, when the government, led by President Pervez Musharraf, imposed emergency rule. This involved suspending the constitution, dismissing judges, censoring the press, and detaining political opponents. The government justified it as necessary to restore stability amid political turmoil and rising threats of violence. However, it drew widespread criticism both domestically and internationally for undermining democratic processes and human rights. The Emergency eventually ended when Musharraf resigned from the presidency in August 2008, leading to reforms and a return to civilian rule.
