American invasion of Afghanistan
The American invasion of Afghanistan began in October 2001 after the September 11 terrorist attacks, orchestrated by al-Qaeda. The U.S. aimed to dismantle al-Qaeda’s network and remove the Taliban regime that sheltered them. The operation involved military force to eliminate terrorist threats, promote stability, and support a new government. Despite initial success, the conflict extended over two decades, facing challenges like insurgency, corruption, and complex local dynamics. The mission evolved from combat to nation-building, ultimately ending with the U.S. troop withdrawal in 2021 and the Taliban regaining control of much of the country.
