Musharraf regime
The Musharraf regime refers to the period from 1999 to 2008 when General Pervez Musharraf ruled Pakistan after leading a military coup that ousted the elected government. His administration focused on economic reforms, highlighting privatization and modernization, but was also marked by controversial measures such as the suspension of the constitution, restrictions on media, and political dissent. Musharraf allied with the United States in the fight against terrorism post-9/11, which earned him support but also opposition domestically. He faced increasing challenges, culminating in his resignation amid widespread protests in 2008.
