Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition characterized by persistent, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) that cause anxiety, and repetitive behaviors or mental acts (compulsions) performed to reduce that anxiety. For example, someone with OCD might obsess about germs and compulsively wash their hands to feel safe. These compulsions are often time-consuming and can interfere with daily life, making it difficult for individuals to function normally. While OCD can vary in severity, treatment often includes therapy, particularly cognitive-behavioral therapy, and sometimes medication to help manage symptoms.
