Nausea and vomiting in pregnancy (NVP)
Nausea and vomiting in pregnancy (NVP), often called morning sickness, is a common condition affecting many pregnant women, usually in the first trimester. It involves feelings of nausea, which may lead to vomiting, and can occur at any time of day. The exact cause isn't fully understood but is believed to be linked to hormonal changes, particularly elevated levels of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). While often uncomfortable, NVP is generally considered a normal part of pregnancy and rarely poses serious health risks. In severe cases, it may require medical attention, known as hyperemesis gravidarum.
