Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK)
Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK) is an Iranian opposition group founded in the 1960s, originally aimed at overthrowing the Shah of Iran. After the 1979 Iranian Revolution, they opposed the new Islamic government, leading to repression and their subsequent exile. The MEK is known for its Marxist-Islamist origins but has shifted towards advocating for a secular, democratic Iran. They have engaged in various forms of activism and have been controversial due to their past use of violence and their current presence in Western countries, where they seek support against the Iranian government.
