Camp Ashraf

Camp Ashraf was a refugee settlement in Iraq that housed members of the People's Mujahedin of Iran (PMOI), an Iranian opposition group opposing the Iranian government. Established in the 1980s, it became a focal point of tension between different countries, especially after the U.S. designated the PMOI as a terrorist organization in 2002 (later removed in 2012). The camp was known for military-style facilities and housing thousands of residents. In 2013, most residents were relocated to Albania, but the settlement's history remains significant in Iran-Iraq-U.S. regional relations.
