Mujahedin Khalq Organization (MEK)

The Mujahedin Khalq Organization (MEK) is an Iranian opposition group that was founded in the 1960s. Initially, it aimed to overthrow the Shah of Iran and opposed Western influence. After the 1979 Iranian Revolution, they fell out of favor with the new Islamic government and became involved in armed resistance. The MEK has been labeled a terrorist organization by some countries but is viewed by others as a legitimate opposition group. It advocates for a democratic, secular government in Iran. Today, it has a political presence and seeks to gain support for regime change in Iran.
