Menstruation

Menstruation, or a period, is a natural monthly process that occurs in people with a uterus, typically starting in adolescence and continuing until menopause. It involves the shedding of the uterine lining when there is no pregnancy. This process usually lasts between three to seven days and is part of the menstrual cycle, which averages about 28 days. Hormonal changes trigger ovulation, where an egg is released. If fertilization does not happen, the uterine lining is expelled. Menstruation can be accompanied by physical and emotional symptoms, and its regularity can vary among individuals.
